Leg Pain
Did you know that leg pain was a very common complaint that many people share. Muscle cramps are one of the leading
causes of leg pain and it can be caused by several different problems. If you’re overusing your muscles by
exercising too much or by working in the same position for long periods of time, this can cause muscle cramps that
creates leg pain.
Being dehydration can cause leg pain along with not having enough magnesium, calcium, potassium and sodium.
There are many different types of injuries to the leg that can cause pain ranging in all degrees from mild to
severe. Certain medications such as Statins and Diuretics will cause leg pain in some people.
Some of the diseases that can cause pain in the legs are listed below:
• Nerve Damage
• Blood Clots
• Infections
• Atherosclerosis
• Varicose Veins
• Inflammation
Occasionally, leg pain can be caused by bone tumors, poor blood flow or a slipped disk. You can help to reduce
your risk of leg pain by following a few preventive measures. Some of these include limiting your alcohol intake,
not smoking or using other tobacco products and taking measures to improve your overall health. Help prevent
injuries by taking the time to warm up and cool down before and after exercising by stretching the muscles. It’s
also a good idea to drink plenty of fluids daily, especially when exercising.
If you do end up with pain in your legs, it’s suggested you see a health care physician if you have a fever or
if the leg is discolored, red or swollen. If the leg is a pale color and cold to the touch or if the pain is worse
when moving around but eases off when resting, it advised that you see your doctor.
Some of the treatments for leg pain include medications such as anticoagulants and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Depending on the cause of the pain, antibiotics may be used or physical therapy may be needed.
If you’re experiencing leg cramps caused by too much exercise or walking too much, this can be alleviated by
massaging the muscles and gently stretching out the leg. You can also elevate the leg and rest for awhile. If the
cramping continues then apply ice four times a day for about fifteen minutes each time and you can take
over-the-counter medications to help relieve the pain if needed.
