Hip Pain Causes


If you’re experiencing hip pain you know it can be some of the most agonizing pain you’ve ever felt.

You may also know that many times the pain is not felt directly in the hip area. It can spread to the areas surrounding the hip and groin. As a person gets older, hip pain becomes more common because bones can become weaker. However, anyone can have problems that cause pain in the hip especially if some type of injury occurs.

Fractures to the hip can be very serious and depending on a persons overall health, it’s possible the hip may not ever completely heal. In some cases, a person may have life-threatening complications occur from a hip injury if surgery is needed to correct the problem. For instance, blood clots in the leg can travel to the lungs and pneumonia is always a possibility.

Some of the medical conditions that can cause hip pain include:

• Bursitis
• Arthritis pain
• Tendonitis
• Strains
• Sprains
• Infections

Injuries caused by some type of accident are some of the leading causes of hip pain. These range in severity from mild to severe depending on the type of injury.
 
If you have hip pain here are a few of the things you can do to help relieve your symptoms:

• Take over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen.
• Get as much rest as possible and avoid activities that make the pain worse.
• Use crutches for support to take some of the strain off the hip while it’s healing.
• For extreme cases, surgery may be necessary.

Tips for avoiding hip injuries:

• Get plenty of exercise that includes stretching the muscles.
• Always warm up before exercising or doing anything strenuous and cool down afterwards.
• Maintain a healthy weight.
• Take care of your bones by eating a healthy nutritious diet.
• Pay attention and try to avoid accidents and falls.

It’s recommended that you take measures to prevent hip pain whenever possible. Once damage has been done to the hip it can be difficult for it to heal. Plus, it can weaken the hip, which makes you even more susceptible to injuries.
